Don't miss "Why eating slowly works" below
We are convinced that it is easier to prevent overeating (eating extra calories) than trying to burn those extra calories that we don't need and we eat only because we have bad eating habits; example:
There are 285 Calories in 1 slice of pizza:
(14" regular crust, one slice 107 g.)
Exercise needed to burn 285 Cals
(depends on your weight and how fast you run of course)
If you weigh 150 lbs, you can burn approximately 285 calories in 30 minutes.
Yeah right! I can see you running to compensate for that EXTRA slice of pizza
IMPORTANT: We are not saying that you cannot eat pizza but it is better to enjoy two slices slowly than to gobble three slices down fast.
HotSmart Plates allow you to eat slowly and enjoy without overeating; they keep food hot.
When the HotSmarts hit the market through Amazon.com they were immediately adopted by home caregivers for the elderly, Alzheimer's patients and other sick people with mobility problems that eat slowly.
The main use for HotSmarts however is simply to enjoy hot food and it also turned out to be an excellent tortilla warmer.
We have basically two sensors in our body that let us know we are full and satisfied; our stomach senses that we are full and our brain gets the satisfied signal (Two different things). We can be full, even bloated and still be hungry.
Our brain needs about 20 minutes to get the signal because digestive and hormonal processes need to take place for the signal to get to the hypothalamus in the brain.
If we eat very fast we will overeat without giving time to the brain "to know" that we do not need any more food.
There is a third Psycological factor that has to do with the time we spend enjoying; we need to avoid distractions, while conversation at the table may be good, watching TV may steal all your attention and all of a sudden your plate will be empty and you will still be hungry.
Anybody can eat slowly once or twice, the tricky part is to acquire the habit; do at least the following:
1. Practice in your mind for 21 days; daydream about how you will look in that petite black dress (or jeans or bikini). take some time to relax and create mental images. I don't give an example for you guys because you get the picture right? Besides I don't care how you look. (Just kidding this is also about health, see Obesity in the USA ).
2. Always relax before you eat (take a few deep breaths)
3. drink a glass of water before eating and take a sip with every bite.
4. put your fork down and chew well
5. Take at least 20 minutes to consume your meal
This was oversimplified; go to wikiHow for detailed information Those people delete any mention to a plate that keeps food hot; why? They say that since we are the only ones that have the solution to the problem of keeping food hot on the plate; it constitutes advertising (even if we do not mention any brand name). and you know what? That is against their own policies. Anyway, if you decide eating slowly is good for you or you have to eat slowly for any reason, don't you think a plate that keeps food hot is a good idea?
